What is a Psychic?

A Psychic is a person who experiences information through forms of perception that are not limited to the ordinary five senses. The information may arrive as images, sounds, sensations, emotions, or an immediate sense of knowing.

The practice

Perception beyond the ordinary senses.

Within Aletheias, the word Psychic refers primarily to the ability to perceive information.

That information may appear as images, sounds, physical sensations, emotions, sudden knowledge, impressions connected to a person or place, or perceptions relating to circumstances beyond the Psychic's immediate surroundings.

Different Psychics experience this in different ways. Some have one particularly developed ability, while others experience several forms of perception together.

The focus is not one technique. It is the perception of information.

Origins of the word

A modern term with ancient roots.

The word Psychic ultimately comes from the Greek ψυχήpsychē — meaning soul or life.

The related Greek word psychikos means “of the soul.” Over time, the English word came to be associated with forms of perception that appear to extend beyond ordinary sensory experience.

The terminology changed. The human interest in intuition, distant perception, foreknowledge and unexplained information is much older.

Common psychic abilities

Different ways of perceiving.

Psychic abilities are commonly described using different names according to the way information is experienced. These are some of the most common:

ClairvoyanceClear seeing — perceiving images, symbols, people, places or scenes beyond ordinary sight.
ClairsentienceClear feeling — perceiving emotions, physical sensations or other impressions beyond immediate physical experience.
ClairaudienceClear hearing — perceiving words, sounds or messages beyond ordinary hearing.
ClaircognizanceClear knowing — information that appears as an immediate understanding without an identifiable ordinary source.

A Psychic may experience one of these abilities more strongly than the others, or several of them together during the same consultancy.

Research context

Perception beyond physical distance.

One structured form of distant perception is commonly called remote viewing. During the Cold War, U.S. government programs investigated whether people could obtain useful information about distant targets without physically observing them.

The programs were eventually discontinued because the results were not considered reliable enough for consistent intelligence use. Their history remains a notable example of attempts to investigate psychic perception under controlled conditions.

The consultancy

What happens during a Psychic consultancy?

A consultancy usually begins with an area of life, situation or question that the Seeker wants to explore.

The Psychic focuses on that subject and communicates the information or impressions they perceive. Depending on their abilities, this might involve imagery, sensations, emotions, sounds, immediate knowledge, perceptions associated with another person, or impressions relating to past, present or possible future circumstances.

The consultancy is conversational. A Seeker can ask questions, explore particular areas and request clarification as the exchange develops.

Information is not always a fixed outcome.

Some impressions may relate to possible future events, but people make choices and circumstances change. A responsible consultancy distinguishes between perceiving a possibility and guaranteeing an outcome.

Frequently asked questions

A few things people often ask.

Psychic perception can be experienced in different ways. These answers focus on what a Seeker may reasonably want to know before choosing a Psychic consultancy on Aletheias.

Consultancies can involve many areas of personal life, including relationships, family, work, decisions, unresolved situations, future possibilities or circumstances that the Seeker wants another perspective on. Different Psychics may also specialise in different areas or forms of perception.

No. Psychic ability and the use of divinatory tools are not the same thing. Some Psychics may occasionally use tools such as tarot cards, astrology, coffee-ground or tea-leaf interpretation, pendulums, or other symbolic systems to create focus, provide structure or complement information they are already perceiving. Aletheias onboards Psychics rather than divinatory-tool practitioners. We do not onboard someone whose consultancy depends predominantly on those tools in order to answer the Seeker’s questions.

Some Psychics report precognitive experiences involving events that have not yet occurred. That does not necessarily make every perceived outcome inevitable. Decisions, circumstances and the actions of other people may affect how a situation develops.

Some Psychics describe retrocognition: receiving information relating to events that have already occurred without having been given that information beforehand. Psychometry may also involve impressions associated with the history of a particular object or location.

No. You can explain what you want to explore without providing an extensive personal history. Additional context can be introduced during the consultancy when it genuinely helps clarify the conversation.

Specific claims can be investigated under controlled conditions. Researchers have designed experiments involving telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, remote perception and other reported abilities. Testing can examine whether information is obtained under particular conditions; explaining how or why the information was perceived is a different question.

No. There is no scientific consensus establishing psychic perception as a conventional human sensory mechanism, but that is different from demonstrating that every reported psychic experience is impossible. The subject has remained an area of investigation and disagreement for more than a century.

Say so. You can ask the Psychic to clarify what they mean or simply acknowledge that the information does not make sense to you. You should never feel obliged to force an interpretation to fit your circumstances.

A final thought

How much can consciousness perceive?

People have explored that question through personal experience, spiritual traditions, controlled experiments and even government research. There is still no single explanation capable of resolving every experience. A consultancy provides information and perspective. What you make of it remains yours.
